'Home Land and Sea'- Researching the development of a new contemporary Māori dance work for the national ballet is the focus of this activity.
This will involve travel from NZ to London with musical experts to research and development and record both Taonga Pūoro and original musical manuscripts held within the British Museum as part of Cook's journey on the Endeavour to Aotearoa in the late 1700's.
This period of research will be critical to the foundations of this major project and will support the building of a major new soundscore for HOME LAND and SEA in 2025. The work we believe will be of national significance.
This new work will be developed and presented in the June 2025 and will tour across NZ until August 2024 with the RNZB with possible planned presentations internationally in 2026. A much needed period of research is required to enable a confident and well informed approach with experts in their area will enable the successful presentation of HOME LAND and SEA in 2025.
We have both the support of the RNZB Artistic Director Ty King Wall and the Curator of the Oceania Collection at the British Museum Dr Alice Christophe. We plan to undertake this period of research in the September period 2024.
